Bargain Break Weekend - Saturday & Sunday 28th/29th June

About 26 members and friends, with 8 classic cars and numerous more modern models met at Abacus by Horizon Village on the 118. We left at 10 am and headed along the road to Chiang Rai until we arrived about 12.30 for our set lunch at Charin Garden Resort. There was time here to venture over the bamboo bridge across the Mae Lao and have a look at the Gardens. We re-joined the 118 and continued north, passing by Chiang Rai and as the highway turns into Route 1 we passed through Mae Chan. In a few more kilometres we turned onto the rural road on which our two resorts were situated. The two delightful ladies who operate the resorts as homestays were ready to meet us.

At 6.30 pm we met again Lakeside at KwanKhao for drinks, and a BBQ buffet had been arranged for us. After dinner member Rob K, Khun Tai and friends entertained us with a selection of Thai and English songs, to the delight of all in attendance.

The following morning we all took breakfast in the KwanKhao restaurant and then moved off in convoy across the paddy fields to the side of the mighty Mekong where we parked our cars in a secure area before embarking on our reserved rivercraft to journey to Don Sao, the Laotian Duty free island. On returning Thai-side we loaded our cars with booty and the tour ended. Some members decided to stay and enjoy lunch by the river, while others headed off home in their own time.

Thanks go to members Derrel, Fon and Rex for organising this weekend break, which was much enjoyed by all participants.
