December 2017

Sunday Run for "New Year's Eve Lunch Under The Wings" with Joachim and Pok : 31st December

We ended 2017 with a very special lunchtime event with a difference on the very last day of 2017, that got everyone primed for their own New Year’s Eve celebrations later that evening.

What made the location of this event special is that it was a ‘Lunch under the Wings’ of an aeroplane in an aircraft hangar attached to a private home, by a private airstrip! Yes, the owners can walk from their house to their private hanger, fire up the light aircraft, taxi it around to the front of the house & take off! How about that!

Our hosts this month were Khun Pok & Joachim G, and around 40 members and friends met at their special house from 11am on Sunday 31st December 2017.

Coffee & tea was available on arrival & time for some catching up & chatting ahead of splendid International and Thai lunch. Pok & Joachim generously provided the food, soft drinks, beer and wine, and several other lady members kindly contributed both savoury and sweet dishes to the buffet.

During lunch we were entertained by live music from a Thai band playing suitably classic oldies from The Beatles to The Eagles, along with some country & western favourites. Member John V even decided to get up and sing an impromptu set with the band!

After lunch, Joachim told us all about his aeroplane & how it comes to be sitting in their hanger in Chiang Mai, as well as showing us the 2 litre benzine-driven boxer engine, and allowing members to take a seat in the cockpit.

A small donation of minimum Baht 200 was requested from all attendees, and those donations along with a generous contribution from the band, raised THB18,660, 100% of which was donated to support member Marc D’s FERC charity. ‘FERC’ is the Foundation for the Education of Rural Children in north Thailand & further information on this worthwhile charity & their works can be found at .

A splendid event, which all participants thoroughly enjoyed, and many thanks go to our hosts Khun Pok and Joachim for their kindness and generosity.
