Sugnday Luncheon Run to MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum
Sunday 27th August 2017

It was a slow start to the morning, but by 11am, we had around 25 people sitting around chatting & enjoying Origin Swiss Café’s beverages & breakfast delights – so a very pleasant turnout for a Sunday Social event.

We had a few interesting vehicles attend we hadn’t seen before, which was good to see & these got close inspection from our group. Just before 12 noon, we pried everyone away from their conversations (made much more difficult by not having Rex’s stentorious voice to call people to order!), got bills paid & people to their vehicles. Three or four persons were unable to join the lunch run, but this was made up for by others who joined us at MAIIAM.

Around 12 noon, we headed off in convoy to MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum at Sankamphaeng, with Jimmy taking the lead & Nest as tail-end Charlie. Fragmented by heavy traffic & traffic lights, 2 or 3 regrouping stops were called for enroute & our convoy eventually arrived at MAIIM.

Staff were in attendance to welcome us & help us park in a prime position out front. After a few photo opportunities, we progressively moved inside into their boutique & restaurant, where a long table had been prepared for our group. Lunch was a la carte, from an interesting & primarily Thai menu, with some western options. Orders taken, staff buzzed around refilling water glasses whilst we chatted & waited for the food to come out. Worth the wait it was too!

Following lunch, most took the opportunity to tour the extensive & very interesting art exhibition, which in addition to their permanent collection, currently focuses on Southern Thailand’s Pattani region. A very modest fee of THB100 p.p. for the entrance was well worthwhile. Our group then drifted off as people viewed the exhibition at their own pace.

As the old saying goes, a picture’s worth a thousand words, so please take the time to look at the small selection of photos below.

It was a lovely & relaxed day & our thanks go to member Nest for organising the run out to MAIIM Contemporary Art Museum.
